Bromelain is an effective
pityriasis treatment.
Pityriasis is characterized by the appearance of
long-lasting, asymptomatic skin lesions. The
disease has no known cause and treatment
outcomes have proved unpredictable and
non-optimal. In a recent study,
investigators treated eight patients who had
this disorder with bromelain for three months.
At the end of the
treatment period, all patients
showed complete clinical recovery with no
adverse effects. And although two patients
relapsed five to six months after stopping
therapy, they responded again to another brief
cycle of therapy.
What is pityriasis?
Pityriasis lichenoides chronica is
the chronic version of the
Pityriasis
lichenoides et varioliformis acuta, also
called Mucha Habermann's Disease.
Pityriasis lichenoides encompasses a
spectrum of clinical presentations
ranging from acute papular lesions that
rapidly evolve into pseudovesicles and
central necrosis (pityriasis lichenoides
et varioliformis acuta or PLEVA) to
small, scaling papules
(pityriasis lichenoides chronica). The
condition can range from a mild chronic form to a more
severe acute eruption. The mild chronic
form is known as pityriasis lichenoides
chronica. It is characterized by the
gradual development of symptom less,
small, scaling papules that
spontaneously flatten and regress over a
period of weeks.
The severe form
of the disease is called
pityriasis lichenoides et varioliformis
acuta.
